Simmons to attend Cork County season opener

by David Gash

Irish head coach, Phil Simmons, will take time out of his preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup to be guest of honour at Cork County's season opening ball.

The event is being held to mark the occasion of the reopening of their refurbished club house and their reintroduction of the club into the Leinster league.

The Mardyke, the historic home of Cork County Cricket Club, was decimated by the severe flooding which hit the western side of the city late last year. As a result the club was forced to completely refurbish the inside of the club house on the Richard Beamish ground. The clubhouse is now ready to open its doors to the clubs members once again after the extensive work.

Cork County are about to embark on one of their toughest seasons to date as they once again join the ranks of the Leinster league for the first time in over 10 years.

The event will be held in the Rochestown Park Hotel on Friday, March 27th. The event will start with a drinks reception in the hotel at 8pm and tickets are priced at €35.

Anyone looking to purchase tickets should contact Cork County committee members and event co-ordinators on:

William J. Bradley (Social Committee): 086 3610711 or wb84zer@gmail.com; and
Robert Duggan (Club Captain): 087 6544728 or rduggan2000@yahoo.com.
