ROY COLLINS, the former Lancashire all rounder, died on 5th November 2009 aged 75.
An attacking lower middle order batsman, and usful off spinner, whose bowling opportunities for his county were limited by the wealth of spin talent available, Roy scored 3,463 runs at 20.82 and took 159 wickets at 30.38, during an eight year first class career between 1954 and 1962. He also held 80 catches, mostly at slip.
He played for the County against both Scotland and Ireland.
In a first class match against the former, at Whitehaugh, Paisley, he did little with the bat but took four wickets in the match, including a caught and bowled to send back Scotland's master batsman, Presbyterian Minister, Jimmy Aitchison for 102. Lancashire won by 71 runs.
They were also successful against Ireland in two day game in College Park in 1959. Roy took four first innings wickets, including Ireland's openers Tom McCloy and Stan Bergin and Larry Warke, just as the big hitting Woodvale man was getting into his stride.
When his first class career was over, Roy played with success in the Lancashire League as well as for Cheshire in the Minor Counties Championship.
He was always a popular visitor to Old Trafford, where he will be greatly missed.
