RICHARD BEAMISH died at Loughlinstown Hospital, Dublin on 13 January 2012.
A stalwart of the YMCA club for many years he played for the Ist XI usually as an opening batsman for 22 years from his debut year of 1961, scoring 3814 runs at 16.02. He hit one 100 and thirteen 50s.
The century - exactly 100 not out - came against Merrion at Claremont Road in 1977. Described as chanceless it took 185 minutes and contained seven 4s.
After retiring from senior cricket Richard continued for several seasons with YM's junior sides. He also took charge of ground preparation and was responsible for the all-important relaying of the square, without which, it is arguable, the remarkable YM batting generation, might never have come to fruition.
He richly deserves the honour of being Club President in 1996 and '97. His wife Liz, who predeceased him, had been Ladies' President in the mid 1980s.
