BRIAN MORTON ANDERSON died at his home in Belfast on 29 April 2010.
An accurate slow left armer, "Brandy" Anderson captained the Queen's University side of 1959 which won the NCU Senior League and reached the final of the NCU Challenge Cup, where they lost to Lisburn by 10 wickets. This was no fault of their captain, who took 5/52 in the victor's first innings, including Jack Bowden, a very dangerous batsman when set.
Brandy was also a member of the cup winning Instonians XI that recorded a tense 18 run win over Sion Mills in 1964, despite a century by Tommy Harpur and fine bowling by the legendary John Flood. Brandy played a major part in Instonians' success with match figures 7/77, his first innings 3/30 including the hat trick.
He appeared in one Guinness Cup match in 1966, for Ulster Town against North Leinster, but had little opportunity in a rain ruined draw.
As schoolteacher by profession, he taught Chemistry at RBAI for many years, doing much for school cricket not only at Inst, but throughout the NCU area.
