Munster Minor Cup Final: UCC defeat Midleton 2nds

by Administrator
Date: 8th August             Venue: Mardyke

Weather: Overcast to start but sunny later.

Toss: Midleton

U.C.C. 86 all out 27.1 overs
(H. O'Leary 4-10) beat Midleton 2  75 all out 28.2 overs (Naverish 4-12, Sean Power 5-27) by 10 runs.

U.C.C. captured the first silverware of the year by defeating a youthful Midleton team in the Munster Minor Cup at the Mardyke last Saturday.

Overnight rain meant the pitch was damper than hoped for and this was a major factor in producing a low scoring game. Midleton won the toss and had no hesitation in asking UCC to bat on the dubious pitch and overcast conditions. From the off, lady luck seemed to be favouring the batsmen as many balls going in the air just wide of the Midleton fielders. Naverish was top scorer with 22 and the last 8 wickets fell for just 17 runs.

The Midleton innings started badly and after 4 overs were 2-14. L. Noone was on 12 at tea break and seemed to be coming to terms with the pitch but second ball after the break, he was out. As the pitch dried out, the U.C.C. bowlers made short work of the lower order batsmen, with the last 7 wickets falling for 22 runs.

Congratulations to U.C.C. and to Naverish who was man of the match.

The Munster Senior Cup Final is due to be played this Saturday 15th at the Mardyke with Ted Wiiliamson's Cork Harlequins facing Galway CC
