Following U.C.C.'s victory in the Minor Cup last weekend and Cork Harlequins victory over Galway in yesterday's Senior Cup, Cork County made it three out of three for the second city clubs with a 5 wicket victory over a game Limerick team at the Mardyke this afternoon.
Limerick were put into bat by County on a good dry wicket but caution was to be the order of the day for the Limerick openers. Despite this, they were 4-55 after 20 overs before Captain, Luke Kirwan and Muhammad Tayyab added 23 and 41 respectively.Good accurate bowling by Mirza Baig put a major dent in Limerick's efforts who were eventually bowled out for 157.
Cork County began their innings conservatively before losing two wickets in the 10th and 11th overs, Captain Dave Reid being bowled by Rokhan Yousafzai and Chris Bannon being run out. At drinks, County were 78-3 and the game was finely poised. Nicky Murphy put on 33 before being bowled by Tariq Saqib and Darren Fogerty 29* and Man of the Match Mirza Baig 15* saw County reach the target of 158 with 5 wickets to spare.
Congratulations to Cork County on winning this years Munster Junior Cup and commiserations to Luke Kirwan and his Limerick team for a very fine effort and contributing to a wonderfully sporting contest.
