Old Belvedere 4ths proved too strong for a defiant Railway Union 4ths side at Cabra today, winning by a comfortable margin of 75 runs.
Railway won the toss and asked the home team to bat on an overcast early afternoon. Despite the conditions Old Belvedere scored an impressive 210-9 in their 40 overs.
Singh top scored with 95 – 45% of the total. Zahid was the next highest scorer with 39. Neville Clarke took 4-42 from his 8 overs.
When Railway Union batted in truth the outcome was never in serious doubt. Though Graham Chisholm finished with a defiant 49* and John Corcoran made 23 Railway were never able to threaten the Belvedere total.
When Railway captain Brendan Mays was run out for 14 (Cunningham), with the score on 112-6 after 32 overs, the match was all but over. Railway eventually finished on 135-7.
