While all Irish supporters will be delighted at Ireland’s success, for supporters of The Hills, success at the Twenty20 World Cup means that they will be without their talisman, Jeremy Bray. I understand that The Hills will also be without Mike Baumgart, for Saturday's 3rd round clash.
2008 Irish Cup runners-up, Donemana will have no such handicaps going into the match. Apart from opening bowler, Andy Britton, who has gone to Fox Lodge, Donemana have a very similar side as last year. Key to their performance will be their professional Azhar Shafique and the 45 year old McBrine twins – Junior and James.
Other players who they will be looking to include promising opening bat, Graham Boyd and ex-Irish internationals Jordan McGonigle and Dwayne McGerrigle.
With their batting line-up looking fragile in Bray’s and Byrne’s absence, The Hills will be looking to their strong bowling attack of Sorensen, Clinton, van der Merwe and co to dismantle Donemana.
If Shafique fires with the bat it could put the match beyond the Fingal club – something James Mc Brine agreed with when I caught up with him at Trent Bridge yesterday.
“It’ll be a very tight match between two good teams. Our pro, Shafique will be the key. If he performs we’ll win the match, said McBrine.
