From Outside the Rope: 'Down All The Days'

"Down All The Days"

While other senior sides were getting to grips with Bob Kerr Cup ties The Hills 1st and 2nd XIs were having a well-earned weekend off and we had the great pleasure of watching The Hills 4th take on Sandyford in the Intermediate Cup. When Johnny burst a fetlock and retired hurt things looked a bit grimbut Jayo stepped up to the plate and did his thing, unfortunately it was only with 5 balls to come that he realised that he needed 9 for his ton.

It was a joy to see the young and some not so young join together to give a winning performance. Here' Michael Gavin's account of the match;

Fourth X1 Progress in Intermediate Cup

A very steady 97 not out from Jason Magee set up our Fourth X1 for a good win in glorious sunshine on Saturday in their Intermediate Cup First Round game against Sandyford. The Hills set a target of 179 for 6 off their 40 overs. Johnny Archer was the best of the supporting batsmen with 21, retired injured.

After the interval The Hills attack got into full swing and wickets began to fall freely after initial resistance from the openers Langton and O'Brien. The game was still in the balance with a fine stand (31) by their number 10 batsman J. Loftus who resisted the temptations to go the way of his colleagues before being bowled by D'Arcy in the 35th over with the Sandyford score on 117.

There was some fine bowling performances for The Hills including: Jim Briscoe with 3 for 26 off 8, Dean Robinson 3 for 26 off 8, Martin Byrne 2 for 6 off 3, Pierce D'arcy with 1 for 5 off 2 and Ultan Doherty with 1 for 6 off 4. The Hills win by 58 runs and proceed to the 2nd round against Wicklow County on Sunday June 26th away in Rathdrum.
